Maura Higgins was arguably the most memorable cast member from Love Island Series 5, so is it any shock she has her own one-off show? Maura’s back on our screens with Maura Higgins: You’re Joking Me, named after one of her many famous catchphrases! However, this is Maura as you’ve never seen her before and it’s definitely no Love Island! Maura is pushed to her psychical limits when she’s made to take part in one of the biggest races in the country!

Who is Maura Higgins?
Maura Higgins is a contestant from Love Island Series 5. The star came in 4th place, coupling up with dancer Curtis Pritchard. Unfortunately, the pair split eight months after leaving the Island together. Many conspiracies were circulating about the split, however, in an interview with The Sun, Maura confirmed the reasoning.
Talking about the breakup in March, Maura said: “Curtis and I barely saw each other. At the beginning it was very, very hard because I was so besotted with him and we never got to see each other. When we did, it was really nice because you got the time to miss somebody. But sometimes it would be two weeks. You know when you’re in a relationship and you know someone’s day to day? We were that busy that we didn’t and it was strange.”
It’s no surprise as Maura has had a very busy year since her exit from the villa. Since Love Island, Maura has appeared on Dancing on Ice where she was paired up with professional skater Alex Demetriou. Maura and Alex were the sixth pair to be sent home in the 2020 series.
She has also partnered up with a range of high profile brands including Anne Summers and Inglot, launching her own collaboration with the make-up brand.
Maura is currently single, however she has been repeatedly linked to fellow Series 5 star Chris Taylor. However, the two have always denied this claiming they’re ‘just friends.’

What is ‘You’re Joking Me?’
Of course, with that personality, producers were keen to snatch Maura up for her own reality show. It seems like it was what she was born to do!
‘You’re Joking Me’ is a one-off documentary that follows Maura as she undergoes training for the famous Spartan race. The Spartan Race is the largest obstacle challenge in the world taking place in many different venues across the UK each year.
Of course, when Maura found out what she’d have to be taking part in, her first reaction was: “You’re joking me!”
Before this, Maura was a stranger to psychical activity describing herself as ‘so unfit.’ She was even described as ‘the most unfit person I’ve ever seen, of any age’ by an 85-year-old exercise instructor! Ouch!
However, Maura never gave up and although we won’t give too much away, she definitely did herself and her trainer Paul proud!
The show was filmed in Winter 2019/2020 as social distancing guidelines were not in place. Maura and Curtis were also still together during filming, as he appeared on a date night and to support Maura during the race.
Maura Higgins You’re Joking Me: Is it worth watching?
Of course! Maura is a natural on TV and definitely has the personality to make anyone laugh! The show also has the feel-good factor and makes you realise you can do anything if you put your mind to it. Plus it’s great to reminisce what life was like before we were quarantined!
We’re hoping this isn’t the last we see of Maura on our screens!
