Celebrity Gogglebox is back for a second series this year and big names in entertainment have been added to the cast. Alongside Gyles Brandreth, fans have noticed a newbie – Maureen Lipman.

Who is Gyles Brandreth – Celebrity Gogglebox
Actor, presenter and writer, Gyles Brandreth is definitely not shy in a change of career direction!
He started his career as a presenter on ITV and later appeared on familiar shows such as Countdown – which he did very well in.
Brandreth made his first national radio broadcast in 1969, giving an influential talk on women’s rights for the radio show Woman’s Hour – he now has his own podcast!
Since then, Gyles has moved into acting and has worked in many successful shows such as; Doctor Who, The IT Crowd and That Mitchell and Webb Look.
Gyles is an author and has written books including a fictional and historical novel on Oscar Wilde and one on the marriage of the Queen and Prince Phillip.
He is recognised as a regular in British panel shows throughout the years which include; Have I Got News For You, The One Show and more.
Celebrity Gogglebox 2020: Who is Maureen Lipman?
Maureen Lipman is a good friend of Gyles and an acclaimed actress in her own right.
She has featured on multiple successful shows and films such as; Educating Rita (1983), Coronation Street and The Pianist (2002).
Maureen has been in film, television and theatre for over 50 years and was made a CBE in 1999 – very impressive stats!
She was married to Jack Rosenthal, the writer of the early Coronation Street episodes until he passed away in 2004.
Maureen has appeared in countless satirical BT adverts.
Was Gyles Brandreth a Member of Parliament?
During the 1990s, Gyles was a Conservative Member of Parliament and represented the city of Chester.
At the time Gyles was working under Prime Minister John Major and stepped down from politics in 1992.
Gyles married his wife Michele Brown, a writer and publisher, in 1973.
The couple has three children, Benet, Saethryd, and Aphra.
Aphra followed her Father’s footsteps in becoming a Conservative MP however, did not get to sit in parliament.

Gyles spoke to Lorraine about being on Celebrity Gogglebox where he explained:
“It’s an amazing experience because they leave the cameras in the room, there’s nobody else in the room, except me and Maureen two feet apart, and you get to watch and forget you’re being filmed. And you watch hour after hour, some of the things we see, my goodness, we’ve certainly being moved out of comfort zone.”
They both sound like they enjoyed their time with filming Gogglebox over lockdown and we could be seeing them again in the next series.
