Reginald Steele is the real name of drag performer Silky Nutmeg Ganache. They became famous on RuPaul’s Drag Race by partaking (and making it to the final 4) in Season 11. Following on from this, the Mississippi born queen is now part of All Stars 6.
With her wit and charm, it’s a love-hate relationship amongst fans. Some fans of the show adore her excitable personality and fun nature, whereas others find her annoying. She advises during her first stint on Drag Race, RuPaul started calling Silky a nickname, ‘The Reverend Dr Silky Nutmeg Ganache’. However, she sometimes gets called Dr Ganache.
Leaving fans of the Drag-based show curious about whether she is a doctor and if not? And if not, where did RuPaul get the bizarre nickname from?
Is Silky Ganache a doctor?
In short, Silky is not a doctor. However, she does have a masters degree in Organizational Leadership. Before going on to RuPaul’s Drag Race, she was looking at getting a PHD, which would make her a doctor. According to People.com, Silky is on her way to becoming a doctor of Philosophy. However, it is unclear if this is a dream she is still pursuing after her two seasons on RuPaul’s Drag Race.
This is something that RuPaul was made aware of and wanted to give the queen a nickname. Similar to Jiggly Caliente, when he says, ‘may I call you Jiggly?’ In an interview with Silky, MTV News stated that they believe that Ru really liked Silky, hence the extra long nickname. Silky advised that RuPaul got her sense of humour and understood her as a person.

Where did the nickname come from?
The 30-year-old queen was often referred to as Dr Reggie when in the university of Wabash, which is an all boys school. So it is believed that due to previously having that nickname out of drag and wanting to become a doctor in the future. Therefore RuPaul wanted to make this own version. Hence the Dr Silky.
In terms of the Reverend part of the nickname, this is due to Silky previously being a minister of music in her church, where she advises she played the piano, sang and lead the choir. Although Silky does not appear to have Instagram anymore, which this tweet is linked to from 2019, it confirms her nickname.
A lot have asked “Why do Mama Ru call you Reverend?” Unfortunately, the reason why wasn’t shown. A few years ago, I was a Minister of Music. I played piano, sang, and lead the choir each… https://t.co/h4HGbvOHPL
