2020 has had us all stuck in front of the TV more than we would like, and celebrities are no different. The Celebrity Gogglebox cast of 2020 are entertaining us, stuck at home front of the box, including Nigel Havers, who definitely has fans talking.

Series 1 of Celebrity Gogglebox proved a hit with fans with big-name stars including Little Mix. It was only right that it came back for Season 2. Nigel Havers and his Gogglebox partner Denis Lawson are joined by an all-star cast including Stacey Solomon, Joe Swash and popular comedian Mo Gilligan.

But who exactly is Nigel Havers, and what is it about him that has Gogglebox fans talking?

Who is Nigel Havers?

For those who may not know, Nigel Havers has had a long-standing acting career, famously known for his role as Lewis Archer on Coronation Street.

Nigel has been in showbiz since his early 20’s and his career first took off way back in 1975, when he starred in Upstairs, Downstairs, playing Peter Dimnot.

His work has not gone without reward, with a  BAFTA nomination for ‘Best Supporting Actor’ for his role in Chariot’s of Fire back in 1982. He also holds a British Soap Award for ‘Best Exit’, awarded for when he left Coronation Street.

Nigel is not the only Celebrity Gogglebox 2020 cast member from the cobbles: Maureen Lipman, who currently plays Evelyn in the soap opera, is also part of the Celebrity Gogglebox cast.

However, Nigel’s talents aren’t just limited to acting. He has also had a presenting gig on This Morning back in 2018. (Who can forget that!)

But Nigel isn’t the only famous face in the family. His father is Baron Micheal Havers, former Attorney General for England and Wales and previously chancellor for the Conservative Government in the 80’s. He is also the godfather of well-loved comedian, Jack Whitehall.

Nigel Havers on Celebrity Gogglebox 2020

Like the rest of the Celebrity Gogglebox 2020 cast, Nigel Havers has made a big impact on screen alongside his partner and Star Wars actor, Denis Lawson. The pair recently starred in the stage tour Art last year.

Nigel’s stand out moment in the series came in episode 3 with his impression of Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Whilst watching a Coronavirus update from the Prime Minister, Nigel imitated Boris’ famous hand movements and famous messy hair, making Denis and Gogglebox fans chuckle.

As well as his humour, Nigel’s home – shown on Celebrity Gogglebox – has also gained attention. Nigel appeared on Good Morning Britain via video link and fans were shocked at how lavish his Wiltshire home was.

It’s no shock Nigel is going down well with viewers as he is no stranger to reality TV. He appeared on the ITV favourite ‘I’m a Celebrity: Get Me Out of Here’ back in 2010. However, the veteran actor didn’t make it very far, famously quitting the show after objecting to an electric shock trial.

Whilst in the jungle, Nigel struck up an unlikely friendship with campmate and fellow Celebrity Gogglebox co-star Shaun Ryder. However, Shaun and his partner Bez have had some controversy during their time on Gogglebox, receiving many OFCOM complaints about their ‘drug talk.’

What else has Celebrity Gogglebox fans talking?

This season of Celebrity Gogglebox has not been short of controversy. Drug talk from Happy Mondays bandmates Shaun and Bez is not the only thing that has viewers riled up.

The show has also received complaints from viewers in regards to social distancing. Many of the partners, including Nigel and Dennis, do not live together. Although rules now permit people from different households to meet indoors, at the time of filming earlier episodes, the government’s Coronavirus guidance imposed restrictions on meeting indoors.

In response to this, Gogglebox released a statement which said:

“All those involved in filming Celebrity Gogglebox are doing so safely following industry production guidelines.”

Alex Mahon, Chief Executive for Channel 4 added:

“Unlocking the television production sector in a safe way will be vital to continuing to ensure we can both continue to serve our audiences and help sustain the livelihoods of those in the industry – and I’m pleased that we’ve been able to work in partnership with other broadcasters, DCMS and PACT to create this innovative new framework.

How is Nigel Havers going down with fans?

So apart from the odd complaint, how is Nigel going down with fans? Quite well, according to Twitter.

However, many Gogglebox fans have taken to the social media site to express their concerns on Nigel’s choice of attire..
