Did you watch Celebrity Gogglebox and wonder who Babatunde and Mo are? Well, you’re not the only one! Audiences everywhere have wanted to know more about the dynamic duo. Ever since they burst onto our screens with their hilarious one-liners and witty comments.
The two friends are currently starring in Channel 4’s Celebrity Gogglebox – alongside a whole line-up of British talent; from Stacey Solomon, Joe Swash and Emilia Fox.
So far Babatunde and Mo have proven very popular with the general public – leaving many questioning their careers and celebrity status. Who are they? What made them famous?

Who is Babatunde Aleshe?
Babatunde Aleshe is a thirty-three-year-old British actor, comedian and writer.
Babatunde began his career as an actor on British television in 2009. During this year he appeared in shows such as Law and Order: UK and New Tricks.
In 2010, he appeared in an episode of Doctor Who called ‘The Lodger’ — alongside Matt Smith and James Corden.
The next year, Aleshe appeared in a recurring role on Eastenders. In the popular soap opera, Babatunde played a nurse who bonded with series regular Tanya Jessop (Jo Joyner) during her chemotherapy treatments. The character also had a scene with Tanya’s daughter (played by Jacqueline Jossa).
However, Babatunde would eventually choose to leave his acting behind, in favour of pursuing a career as a writer and stand-up comedian.
Since making this career change, Aleshe has toured the UK with his comedy routines! Babatunde has performed in various prominent venues, from the O2 to the Hackney Empire. He bases his comedy around his life in London and his experiences of being black.
Babatunde is also the recipient of several prestigious awards! In 2019, he won the Amused Moose National New Comic Award. Aleshe also appeared on Dave Chapelle’s live showcase – The Process. Aleshe also recently won ‘Best Newcomer’ at the Black Entertainment Comedy Awards. Solidifying his position as one of Britain’s most exciting new comedic talents.
Although Babatunde has a large and charismatic personality, very little is known about his personal life. However, it has been reported that he is of Nigerian ancestry and that he is married to a Jamaican woman.

Who is Mo Gilligan?
Mo Gilligan is a thirty-two-year-old comedian, writer and television presenter. Unlike Babatunde, the Gogglebox star began his career on social media – where he would post videos of his comedy routines.
In 2017, Gilligan’s videos went viral! Canadian rapper, Drake, even quoted one of Gilligan’s videos on his own Instagram account — pushing Mo into the spotlight and earning him universal recognition.
In 2018, Mo Gilligan became the host of Channel 4’s The Big Narstie Show. Later in the same year, he appeared alongside Claudia Winkleman on The Big Fat Quiz of The Year.
Mo Gilligan currently hosts his own show, The Late Show with Mo Gilligan, which premiered on Channel 4 in June 2019. In the same year, Netflix streamed his first stand-up comedy special Momentum.
But there’s more! The British public may also recognise him for his participation in The Great British Bake Off. Mo appeared in the charity special which aired in April of this year.
Mo Gilligan has also been nominated for several major awards, such as TV Presenter of the Year at the National Television Awards. In 2019, he was also nominated for the Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award at the Television BAFTAs. As well as being nominated for ‘Best Newcomer’ and ‘Best Breakthrough’ at the Royal Television Society.
The Times named Mo Gilligan their ‘Funniest Man’. While his first major stand-up tour sold over 50,000 tickets!
Gilligan often keeps his personal life private from the public. However, in 2018 Gilligan revealed that he was in a relationship with Hollyoaks actor – Sophie Wise. Since this revelation, there has been no word on the current status of the couple’s relationship.
It is not known how Babatunde and Mo became friends, but it can be assumed that they met through the comedy circuit.

Babatunde and Mo on Celebrity Gogglebox
Babatunde and Mo appeared on our screens in the first episode of Celebrity Gogglebox series 2, which aired on Channel 4 in early June. On the day the episode was released, the British comedians took to their social media and shared their excitement about appearing on the show!
Babatunde took to Twitter where he shared a short video of the show’s iconic opening titles. Punctuating the tweet with a bunch of flame emojis.
While Mo took to his Instagram account, where he shared a promotional image of him and his friend – sitting two meters apart and ready to enjoy some television.
The two comedians immediately struck a chord on the show! Starting off by hilariously criticising Gordon Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares. Babatunde and Mo both bursting into laughter after watching the celebrity chef don the disguise of an elderly lady.
In the first episode, we saw the two friends fake Northern accents, laugh at various television shows and even share their personal fears. Babatunde using the show to discuss his severe phobia of frogs! Leading to another hilarious exchange between the two men.

Babatunde and Mo’s infectious laughter and fast-paced banter saw them immediately becoming popular among the Gogglebox fandom. Many people took to social media to voice their appreciation and enjoyment of the two friends.
